Survival in the wild at it's best

Imagine a foul tasting meal? Yes, that's what the horned Mexican lizard imagined, you wouldn't dare eat such a meal. The Horned Mexican lizard willingly offer a taste of its blood by squirting a sample of it which oozes from the eye. The blood tastes so foul  that no predator would dare eat the lizard. Further the lizard can puff itself so that the spikes on its back can protrude outwards and become very sharp so that even if the predator wouldn't mind the taste, it would be practically impossible to swallow the lizard.

The wildebeest migration from the Serengeti National Park , Tanzania  to Kenyan Maasai Mara National Park has become a very important tourism attraction in the two countries having been declared a  wonder of the world. This is because the migration is a spectacular  as millions of the wildebeest together with other grazers such as the zebras and antelopes travels  over thousand  kilometers from Serengeti National Park to Masaai Mara in Kenya and back again . The migration is timed to coincide with the rainy seasons as the wildebeest move in search of pasture and surface water. The journey is made more spectacular by the fact that it’s the ultimate convergence  of  both predators and the prey.  The journey is the perfect illustration of the survival for the fittest. The predators like lions, hyenas, leopards and even crocodiles wait to make a kill literally during the migration especially at strategic places such as the river crossing sections.

Hippo's Natural Sun Burn Cream

The Hippo being among  one of the largest mammals in the wild, is not scared of other predators such as the lions or even crocodile especially once it has grown to it’s full body size. The hippo is more worried of the scorching African sun and disease causing bacteria hence it has developed a unique defence mechanism.

Hippos have developed their own natural sunscreen, which oozes out of their pores in a shocking, bright red color. This strange secretion has earned them appropriately horrific nickname of “blood sweat,” although it contains neither bodily fluid. Instead, it is made up of a number of highly acidic compounds that absorb ultraviolet light, preventing sunburn, and that inhibit the growth of bacteria. While we usually think of the blood sweat as bright red, it actually comes out clear, turns red and then fades to brown as it becomes exposed to the air.
